Pricing & funding home care

We believe in clear, honest information about how home care is priced and funded. Every person is different, so the best way to get an accurate cost is to talk to us – but this page gives you a helpful guide to the main options available in and around Milton Keynes.

How we calculate the cost of home care

The cost of a home care package depends on several factors, including the level of need, number of hours required, where you live and whether you need daytime visits, nights or live-in care.

Level of support needed

Complex care packages are priced according to the skills and training required, the time needed for each visit and the number of carers required for safe moving and handling.

  • Standard home care / domiciliary visits
  • Specialist complex care visits
  • Two-carer visits for safe transfers

Visit length & frequency

We can provide short visits, longer blocks of care, overnight support or live-in care. We will always be realistic about what is needed to support you safely.

  • Short visits (e.g. 30–60 minutes)
  • Longer blocks of care (e.g. 2–4 hours)
  • Overnight or live-in care where needed

Location & travel

We cover a wide area around Milton Keynes. For more rural locations or longer travel times, pricing may vary – we will explain this clearly when we assess your needs.

  • Based in Milton Keynes
  • Up to around 50 miles’ radius
  • Honest guidance if we cannot cover your area

Private home care – paying for care yourself

Many families choose to pay for some or all of their home care privately. This can give you more choice over who provides care, when visits take place and the type of support included.

Typical private care options

We will give you a personalised written quote after your assessment. As a guide, typical privately funded options include:

  • Regular daily visits for personal care and medication support
  • Complex care visits for specific clinical tasks
  • Overnight support (sleeping or waking night)
  • 24-hour live-in care packages

We are always transparent about costs and will never start care without your clear agreement.

Managing private care costs

We can work with you to design a package that fits your budget, for example combining:

  • A core complex care package
  • Additional visits during periods of higher need
  • Respite and holiday cover for family carers

Many people choose to start with a smaller package and increase support if needed over time.

Local authority funding & social care assessments

You may be entitled to support from your local council towards the cost of home care. This will usually start with a care needs assessment and may include a financial assessment.

Care needs assessment

Your local council’s adult social care team can assess what support you need day-to-day. We are happy to work alongside any plans agreed.

  • Helps identify the level of support you require
  • Can cover personal care, safety and independence
  • Does not commit you to using council-commissioned care

Financial assessment

Depending on your income, savings and assets, you may receive full funding, partial funding or be asked to pay for your own care.

  • Different rules apply for care at home vs care homes
  • We recommend getting independent financial advice
  • We can work with you whatever the outcome

Direct payments

If you receive support from the council, you may be offered a direct payment so you can choose your own care provider.

  • Gives you more control over your package
  • You can use direct payments with us if appropriate
  • We can help you understand how this works in practice

NHS Continuing Healthcare & Personal Health Budgets

Some people with complex, primarily health-based needs may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding, which can cover the full cost of a home care package.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

CHC is a package of care arranged and funded entirely by the NHS for individuals with significant ongoing healthcare needs.

  • Eligibility is decided by an NHS assessment
  • Can be used for care at home or in a care home
  • We can deliver complex home care for CHC-funded clients

Personal Health Budgets

A Personal Health Budget is money from the NHS to support your identified health and wellbeing needs.

  • Gives you more choice and control
  • Can be held by you, a representative or a third party
  • Often used alongside complex care packages at home

Working with health professionals

We regularly work alongside NHS teams, clinical nurse specialists and commissioners to deliver safe home care for people with complex needs.

  • Care plans aligned with clinical guidance
  • Carers trained and deemed competent where required
  • Regular reviews and communication with professionals
